A few words about me...
R Royce is not my real name, but I am a real person, and this is a picture of a real rose in my garden. I live in South-East London with the love of my life, two incredible teenage children, and a ginger Tom who doesn't belong to us but thinks this is his second home.
I love the storytelling in Vertical Dramas, and after reading a fantastic book about writing a vertical drama series in just ten days, I wrote my own vertical drama script. (See 'The Guard, The Thief, and The Woman Between Them') I've been writing for almost forty years, but this was the most fun I'd had doing it in a long time!
So, I started creating quick, accessible tales for an audience who loves this relatively new style of storytelling as much as I do. This has been incredible fun and I hope you enjoy escaping into these worlds as much as I enjoy creating them.

I really enjoy the Vertical Drama way of telling a story. I still enjoy movies and multiple season series on streaming services, but there's a different kind of escape that sucks me in immediately when I watch a Vertical Drama. And I wanted to create the same energy, the same crazy rides, the same escape in book form that I love on the small screen. Different genres and characters but all written in the same style. R Royce is not the brand, the fun and escapism of Vertical Drama is!
I'm not embarrassed by these stories, but I am a private person and like to have my life compartmentalised into easier to manage sections. Plus, I've looked after my children for so long, it has become the defining identity for me, and it's difficult at the moment to be known as something else.
I've read many 'how to' writing books, but the one about writing a vertical drama in ten days really cemented a writing pattern that I enjoyed and worked for me. Instead of planning and plotting I was more focussed on writing an adventure. Of just enjoying the journey. (Just like Vertical Dramas!) I also started at the beginning of the year, and wanted to have several books out in quick succession, quick, accessible stories that are not going to change the world, but hopefully, change a moment in our day to be that little bit more exciting and fun.
One of the many things I love about Vertical Dramas is that I can escape into a story anywhere. And even though I may be immersed in a betrayal, a passionate encounter, or a billionaire alpha tricking his wife's sister into having his baby, no one around me is in the same world as I am. They just see the black of my phone cover. I like the idea that one can read any of these stories in public without someone else judging the reader by its cover.
I'm still learning and my primary focus is telling stories. I've set up a company to publish books that I would like to read and the main focus at the moment is to create more! This may change in the future, but right now, I want all my energies in creating the best stories I can. (Also, for someone who hasn't been on social media since 2014, it's a daunting prospect putting yourself out there.)
All down to my son. Despite no interest in these books (it's fun sometimes to see how far back his eyes roll when I tell him the plots or titles), he's incredibly skilled on a computer, and built the whole site for me. (As well as creating the VDB logo and all the print book covers!)
